TOPIC: The wait time from "Post Decision Activity"

The wait time from "Post Decision Activity" 1 year, 5 months ago #572

  • Niraya
Hello,
My husband has applied for his citizenship and I went to the USCIS website to track the progress of it and it says "Post Decision Activity" and that he was approved in November of 2009. I don't know what this entails exactly but I know that the next step after being approved is for him to take the Oath and what not. I was just wondering if this is an extremely long wait or if this is normal as it is now August of 2010. If this is long and if we should be concerned what can we do? Any help on this topic would be greatly appriciated.

Dear Niraya:

You did not state when your husband applied for his citizenship, so I cannot tell you if it is taking too long or not.

In general, it takes 5-6 months in most U.S. cities to (1) file the citizenship application (2) provide fingerprints (3) attend the citizenship interview; and (4) attend the citizenship oath ceremony.

If it is taking longer, your 3 trouble shooting strategies are: (1) to make an INFOPASS appt. at your local USCIS District Office using the www.uscis.com website appointment system and go in person and ask about the delay, or (2) ask a U.S. Congress Representative to submit a congressional inquiry for you, or (3) hire an immigration attorney to figure out why your husband's case is delayed and take steps to get it back on track.

Sincerely, Danielle Nelisse, Immigration Attorney
