Green Card Lottery Do-Over; Fate of Thousands of Hopeful Immigrants Hangs in Balance

Description

"Green card lottery" is trending after a federal judge dismissed a class action suit based on a mix-up with the visa-distribution program. The congressionally mandated lottery awards 50,000 permanent-resident visas to people from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. Fifteen million people entered the drawing this year. The lawsuit arose after thousands of hopeful immigrants were announced as winners on the State Departmentapos;s website, only to be told later of a computer glitch during the drawing that heavily favored those who applied early. The "winners" now have to wait and see if theyapos;re lucky enough to win a visa in the do-over lottery.
